“Perspective” Lily Low Poetry

Beyond

This is what they say

about people with beautiful souls

They may not be perfect

but a heart of gold, they hold

They try to spread love

as much as they can

They know that the feeling of home

is not a privilege everyone shares

Words are powerful

A little encouragement goes a long way

Kindness over brashness

A little hope can make someone’s day

Aside from the positivity and calm

and love they have built

There is more to them

beyond their strength, steadiness and zeal

They decide that the pursuit of being right

was not always worth starting a fight

They continue to master the art of letting go

You can get the last word in, but what’s got to go?

By telling them they are weak

That they are nothing but a geek

That their beliefs made them frail and meek

That their minds needed a tweak

If there is no effort to understand

And as long as they’re in your hold

They would never be treasured

When you’re copper and they’re gold

the fight in you

You will fight

You will fall

You will roar

You will hike

You will bawl

You will crawl

You will also breathe

Through the wrongs

Through the lethargy

Through the rights

Through the synergy

Despite the amalgamated blob that is our thoughts

You are here

You will shine again

Sometimes what we need

Is gratitude for a new tomorrow

Perspective

The theme of "Golden" and the song itself led to a self-reflection on how powerful perception can be. Our perception has the ability to shape how we feel, think, and act. These poems are reminders that while we may go through darkness, we can still find a safe harbour to be.
