Over recent years, feminism has progressed into a more intersectional movement. A movement that acknowledges all kinds of systematic inequalities, privileges and when to pass the mic over.

As I type this, I am sweating. I went to a die-in by the Extinction Rebellion chapter in my city this afternoon on a pedestrian bridge, where all the participants laid down in the middle of the path under the bright sun to symbolize dying from climate disaster. At this die-in, an older couple, a man and a woman, stopped on the bridge and asked one of the organizers, “Why climate action?”

In countries and cultures all over the world, women have actively fought for their freedom, basic rights, and personal autonomy. The shape it takes varies from country to country, as feminism is fluid and adaptable to the location and culture in which it is needed.

We’ve all heard the cliché—society sorts us into boxes. Stamps barcodes on our foreheads based on our identities and divides us. Clean. Simple. Easy. But I’ve never been one to fit into a box.

I am currently a musician/rapper starting out my journey as an artist. I’ve recently embraced my artist persona (which is honestly more like my way self than anything else) more and more, and dived head first into exploring the music industry where I am currently located - in Vancouver, Canada.

Indian, American. Immigrant, Culture. Sexism, Racism. Wife, Mother, Physician.

These labels, these titles have been, and continue to be such a prominent part of my life. They define me.
